Two new exhibitions open Friday evening at River Arts in Damariscotta.
The public is invited to the opening reception of “Artists’ Choice” Friday from 5-7 p.m. Charlotte Davenhill, curator and owner of the Tidemark Gallery in Waldoboro, selected nearly 140 works by 90 artists from all over Maine to create an exhibition which includes encaustic, sculpture, photography, collage, painting, ceramics and fine craft and assemblage.
Cathie Stebbins Peterson, fiber artist and Kemal Lowenthal, woodworker have teamed up for a fiber and wood exhibition in the West Gallery which will also be opening this Friday. Peterson’s fiber work brings color and texture in the form of woolscapes, weavings, and knitted pieces. Lowenthal’s functional and graceful woodwork includes benches and kitchenware.River Arts holds 10 themed, open, juried exhibitions per year. The gallery program creates opportunity for artists to have their work selected, participate in the gallery process and sell their work. More than 7,000 people visit the gallery and participate in events and workshops each year.
River Arts is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 to 4, and on Sundays from 10-2. It is closed on Mondays. River Arts is located at 241 Route 1 in Damariscotta.
