
THE SCHOONER MARY E is scheduled to arrive at Maine Maritime Museum on Sunday, April 23. The museum is throwing a party to welcome her home to the City of Ships from 10 a.m. to noon. The public is invited to cheer her on as she makes her way up the Kennebec River, and be some of the first to go on board at the dock.
The Maine Maritime Museum is offering something for everyone this spring. From boat safety to shaker box making, the following activities and events will be offered this season at the Bath museum.
Navigating Midcoast Maine
Mondays and Wednesdays April 17-26. 6-8 p.m. Members $76; nonmembers $95
Students will learn the basics about nautical charts, using navigational aids to cruise safely, and how to plan cruises using the information found on charts (e.g. buoys, lights, water depth).
Welcome Home Party for Mary E
Sunday, April 23. 10 a. m. to noon. Free.
The oldest Bath- built wooden schooner still afloat is coming home. The schooner Mary E is scheduled to arrive at Maine Maritime Museum on Sunday, April 23. About Boating Safely
Mondays & Wednesdays May 15-24. 6-8 p.m. Members $68; nonmembers $85
In this beginner boating class, students will gain the basic knowledge to safely trailer, navigate and operate a small vessel. This class will give information to obtain a boat license or safety certification.
Shaker Box Making
Wednesday and Thursday, May 17 and 18 5-8 p.m. Members $75; nonmembers $94
In this introductory woodworking course, each participant builds three nesting oval boxes made from cherry and cedar. No experience required.
Community Day
Saturday, May 20. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Free.
Kick off the summer season with the raising of the flags over the Wyoming evocation and cannon fire at noon signaling the official start of the museum’s seasonal tours and activities. Reduced-price cruises and activities for kids.
