New England Celtic Arts will present Songs Beyond Borders Part I at the Chocolate Church Arts Center, located at 804 Washington St. in Bath on Friday April 21 at 7:30 pm. This concert marks the fifth year featuring Maine and East Coast Canadian songwriters Denny Breau, Heather Pierson, Ian Sherwood and Ashley Condon.
“Songs Beyond Borders” is an ongoing project between New England Celtic Arts and the East Coast Music Association to provide a cross-cultural exchange with Maine and the Maritimes. Part I will be held in April this year and Part II in late October. The musicians selected have been chosen to highlight stories and songs from the regions participating.
Representing Maine will be Denny Breau, mixing the genres of folk, Delta blues, country and jazz.
Heather Pierson, a Maine native, is an award- winning pianist, multi- genre singer/songwriter, arranger, bandleader and performer. She’ll be performing genres from New Orleans-style jazz and blues to Americana and folk narratives.
International flair is added with Ian Sherwood, representing Nova Scotia. Ian Sherwood is a musician and story teller who’s penned tunes for many other artists as well as for theatre, film and television.
Ashley Condon from Prince Edward Island was raised between two potato fields. Growing up on everything from old-time country to folk, blues and soul, she is a writer and singer who likes to joke and tell stories to her audiences.
Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the door and can be purchased online www.chocolatechurcharts.org or by calling (207) 442-8455. The Chocolate Church Arts Center is at 804 Washington Street Bath.
