On April 7, the Brunswick Downtown Association in partnership with the Maine State Music Theatre will kick off a busy Spring season with an event designed just for women. Described as a fun and goofy event, the 4th annual “Diva Night” is expected to sell out, with 130 people ready to dance, drink cocktails and have their fortunes told.
After a long Maine winter, “It’s time to get out and have fun,” said BDA Marketing Coordinator Patti Spencer-Yost, adding “it’s a good excuse to get dressed up.”
The event is only for women — apart from a few gentlemen dressed in tuxedos to present each woman with a feather boa and escort them down the red carpet, where a professional photographer will take their picture.
Creative cocktails will be served that align with the themes of Maine State Music Theatre’s upcoming shows, including “Guys and Dolls,” “Grease,” and “Always, Patsy Cline.” Hors d’Oeuvres from Joshua’s Restaurant and dessert from local bakeries will be served, and a fashion show featuring local celebrities wearing clothing from local retail shops will also be part of the event. Local vendors will showcase their wares and skills, including makeup application tips and mini makeovers. Two psychic readers will also be available to tell fortunes — a popular feature of last year’s event.
Tony from Tony’s Dance Studio in Bath will be there to facilitate the dance party.
“(Tony’s) like a walking party. He enters the room with so much energy — it’s infectious,” said Spencer-Yost. “He is such a fun guy.”
The music will feature Motown and ’60s and ’70s dance tunes played by BDA Membership and Events Coordinator Trevor Geiger.
