BRUNSWICK

World music and dance ensemble Libana returns to Maine as part of the UUCB Concerts for a Cause series at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Brunswick Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

“ Libana uncovers and celebrates the songs and traditions of women’s communities around the world,” said Libana founder Susan Robbins. “In many societies, music and dance are a daily part of women’s lives — in the home, in the field, and in the community, such as lullabies, work songs, and dances that accompany rites and rituals.”

Libana’s repertoire covers a musical spectrum and is expressed with vocals and instruments including guitar, dumbek, accordion, oud, naqqara, clarinet and double bass. The performances interweave music, dance and story from such cultures as the Balkans, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, South America and Europe.

Tickets are $ 15 in advance, $ 20 at the door, and are available at the church office at 1 Middle St. in Brunswick, by phone at (207) 729-8515, at Gulf of Maine Books or at brownpapertickets.com. Money raised from the concert will benefit the programming of the church and local charities.
