BOYS
Nick Fiorillo, Scarborough basketball: Fiorillo, a sophomore, led the Red Storm (5-12) in scoring in three straight games, keying two wins. Last Wednesday he scored 18 points and made all three free throws after being fouled on a 3-point attempt with one second left in a 51-50 win at Gorham. The 6-foot-4 Fiorillo followed with a 25-point effort in a 73-55 win against Massabesic on Friday. Fiorillo scored 20 points with four 3-pointers in Monday’s 83-52 loss at Deering.
HONORABLE MENTION
Tucker Banger, Morse swimming: A senior, Banger anchored two winning relays (200 medley and 200 free), and won the 50 and 100 freestyle races to lead the Shipbuilders to the KVAC Class B championship. His time of 22.03 seconds in the 50 free is the fastest in Class B this season.
Devon Lathrop, Cape Elizabeth Alpine skiing: A sophomore, Lathrop swept the Western Maine Conference Alpine titles Thursday at Shawnee Peak, winning the slalom by more than four seconds and the giant slalom by less than a second to lead the Capers to an overall team championship. The meet included 12 schools and at least 80 racers in each event.
Sam Rusak, Scarborough track: The senior multi-event star won three events at the SMAA Championships at the University of Southern Maine on Saturday, winning the 200 in a state-leading time of 23.12 seconds, the high jump (6 feet, 3 inches) and the pole vault in a personal-best height and state-leading mark of 15-10.
GIRLS
Olivia Tighe, Cape Elizabeth swimming: A sophomore, Tighe anchored the 400-yard freestyle relay to a state- record time of 3:37.60 Friday in a meet with Falmouth. Sophomore Alicia Lawrence and freshmen Emily Ecker and Caroline Mahoney swam the first three legs. Morse also broke the same record (set at 3:39.10 last winter by Brunswick), with 3:38.15. Tighe also anchored the winning 200 medley relay and triumphed in the 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley.
HONORABLE MENTION
Emma Gallant, Cheverus track: The freshman won three events at the SMAA Championships on Feb. 4 at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham on Saturday, capturing the 55-meter dash (7.51), the 200 (26.27), and the 400 (59.38).
Courtney Sullivan, Greely hockey: The junior forward collected three goals and three assists as the Rangers improved to 16-2 by beating Brunswick 10-2 on Saturday. Sullivan also scored Thursday in Greely’s 3-2 loss to St. Dominic (18-0).
Delaney Haines, Deering basketball: The sophomore guard keyed a much-needed 48-44 overtime win at Scarborough on Monday, scoring seven of the Rams’ nine points in overtime to finish with a team-high 16 points with four 3-pointers. Deering (10-7) had lost four of its previous five games. Haines also had a team-high 18 points with five 3s in a 57-46 loss at South Portland.
