Michael Smith was promoted to a partner at Preti Flaherty.
Smith practices in the firm’s litigation and health law groups and is based in the Portland office. He previously practiced as an associate.
F. Jay Meyer recently joined Troubh Heisler, PA, a Portland-area law firm.
Meyer brings over 27 years of experience in business and financial services law, real estate, admiralty and maritime law. He previously served as senior counsel for TD Bank, N.A.
Verrill Dana welcomes attorneys Samuel Baldwin, Christopher Monroe and Michael Kebede as associates in the firm’s Portland office.
Baldwin, a former reporter and editor at several midcoast newspapers, received his law degree from the University of Maine School of Law. Most recently, he served as a law clerk for Maine Supreme Judicial Court Justice Donald Alexander.
Kebede received his law degree cum laude from Boston College Law School, where he was articles editor of the Environmental Affairs Law Review. Most recently, he was a clerk for Maine Supreme Judicial Court Chief Justice Leigh Saufley.
Monroe received his law degree from the University of Maine School of Law. There, he authored the “prize brief” in a classwide appellate competition and competed at the national level in an Admiralty Law Moot Court competition.
PROMOTIONS
Bernstein Shur named Michael Bosse as co-chair of the firm’s litigation practice group.
Bosse, of Scarborough, has been a litigator for 20 years. He joined Bernstein Shur 15 years ago.
Michael Anderson, Sam Blatchley, Kris Eimicke, Jana Magnuson, Nolan Reichl and Mark Rosen were named partners at Pierce Atwood LLP.
Anderson, based in the firm’s Portland office, works on general corporate, transactional, securities law, commercial finance and antitrust cases.
Blatchley represents clients in the marine industry, including vessel owners and operators, charterers, construction and dredging firms and marina operators. He works in the firm’s Boston, Massachusetts, and Providence, Rhode Island offices.
Eimicke concentrates his practice on tax issues, with an emphasis on state and federal new markets tax credit programs, renewable energy tax credits, and historic rehabilitation tax credits. He is based in the Portland office.
Magnuson, based in Portland, works with clients to create estate plans and provides guidance on the transfer of assets, including real estate, into trust and entity ownership.
Reichl has represented clients in numerous complex commercial actions, including Central Maine Power, Nestlé Waters and Eli Lilly & Company. He is based in the Portland office.
Rosen, who works in the Portsmouth, New Hampshire, office, represents companies and financial services firms in class action litigation, securities litigation, and complex and high-stakes business litigation cases.
AWARDS and RECOGNITIONS
Seven Drummond Woodsum attorneys were named Best Lawyers in America 2017 Lawyer of the Year.

Jonathan Dunitz, an attorney at Verrill Dana, was named an American Bar Foundation Fellow. Dunitz has more than 20 years of experience, focusing his law practice on insurance coverage and litigation, commercial litigation, complex family law, and appeals.
GENERAL
Elizabeth Scheffee, of Shaheen and Gordon, P.A., recently served on the Maine Supreme Judicial Court’s Advisory Commission for the Uniform Bar Exam. Scheffee, a divorce and family law attorney, was appointed by the Maine Bar Association to serve on the commission.
