A 4-year-old boy has died from injuries he suffered in a car crash that also killed his grandfather and injured his 5-year-old sister, according to a family friend.

Gavin Brackley died Saturday morning, Windham police said. His grandfather, Dennis Brackley, 65, of New Gloucester, died when his car crossed the centerline of Route 202 in Windham on Friday night and hit an SUV head-on.

Brackley’s granddaughter Alexa Goad, 5, was being treated at Maine Medical Center in Portland on Monday night. A nursing supervisor said the girl was in satisfactory condition.

Some of Gavin’s organs were donated to help others, family friend Melanie Craig told WCSH-TV. “He gave his heart valves and his eyes so other families’ prayers could be answered.”

Dennis Brackley died at the scene of the crash Friday night. His passengers – Gavin and Alexa – were taken to Maine Medical Center with serious injuries.

Also seriously injured were the driver of the SUV, Adrian King, 33, of Windham, and his passenger, Samantha-Jo Brink. Both were listed in satisfactory condition Monday at Maine Medical Center.

Craig has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for the Brackley family. By Monday night, the page had raised $15,900, exceeding the initial goal of $10,000.

Craig said the injured girl, Alexa, is “making some gains” and doctors are cautiously optimistic about her prognosis.

The accident remains under investigation by Windham police. No charges are pending.
