The Mustard Seed Bookstore has announced their social events calendar for the first half of 2017. This year they will host events designed to draw community together around a literary or historical theme — including a Downton Abbey Tea Party in January and a get-together with children’s author and illustrator Chris Van Dusen in June.
On Jan. 19 at 5:30 p.m., Mustard Seed is hosting an “I Miss Downton Abbey” Tea Party. Guests are invited to wear a hat and gloves or costume from any decade and celebrate the PBS series “Downton Abbey.” Tea and refreshments will be provided. Reservations can be made by calling the bookstore at (207) 389-4084 and the cost is $5 per person.

Seed will host a Louise Penny Potluck called “The Nature of the Feast.” Louise Penny is the author of a mystery series featuring Inspector Gamache. The store asks that participants bring a Three Pines Bistro dish (recipes available upon request) or a favorite winter dish to share. Reservations are required but the event is free.
March is “Support Your Local Library Month” at The Mustard Seed. They will be joining the Patten Free Library to welcome Maine novelist and screenwriter Richard Russo on March 14 at 6:30 p.m. and Maine author, artist and illustrator Melissa Sweet on March 23 at 4 p.m.
On April 20 at 5:30 p.m., American historical nautical novelist Jim Nelson will be at the Mustard Seed. The theme is “Seagoing Rouges – the Viking and Pirates During their Golden Age.” Nelson will be presenting in costume and participants are encouraged to wear their favorite pirate gear.
Mustard Seed will help launch a new book by author Wendy Ulmer in May. Ulmer has just completed her first middle-grade novel, titled “Music, Magic, a Boy and a Dragon.” Participants will have an opportunity to be one of the first in the country to own a copy on May 20. Dragons are welcome.
In June the bookstore will host Maine children’s author and illustrator Chris Van Dusen. He will introduce his newest work, “Hattie & Hudson” on June 10 from 10 a.m. to noon.
