Emme Poulin scored a game-high 22 points Tuesday night to lead Cheverus to a 56-53 overtime victory against visiting Deering in an SMAA girls’ basketball game at Keegan Gym.
Cheverus (4-2) preserved the victory by knocking down nine free throws in overtime against the Rams (5-2).
Cheverus led 43-36 with three minutes left in regulation but Delaney Haines of Deering scored five of her team-high 21 points in the next two minutes to cut the lead to 43-41.
Amanda Brett made it 43 -43 on a layup with eight seconds left in regulation.
Cheverus pulled away in overtime with four free throws from Abby Cavallaro, who finished with 11 points, and three from Kaylin Malmquist. Katasia Titherington added 13 points for Deering.
YORK 42, KENNEBUNK 32: Reilly Smedley and Nina Howe scored 10 points each to lead the Wildcats (4-3) over the Rams (5-3) at Kennebunk.
The Wildcats outscored the Rams in three of the four quarters, opening an 18-10 lead in the first.
Gabby Fogg had a game-high 11 points and Sierra Tarte added nine for the Rams.
WELLS 52, WAYNFLETE 22: Natalie Thurber and Halee Ramsdell each scored five points as Wells (5-1) opened a 21-7 first-period lead and beat the Flyers (2-4) at Portland.
Thurber finished with 10 points for the Warriors, who had 11 players score. Lydia Giguere had 12 points for the Flyers.
GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 64, FREEPORT 33: Skye Conley posted 19 points and eight rebounds, and Isabelle DeTroy added 13 points as the Patriots (7-0) beat the Falcons (4-2) at Gray.
The score was 15-15 after the first quarter before Gray-New Gloucester pulled away.
Caroline Smith led Freeport with nine points. Taylor Rinaldi had eight.
BRUNSWICK 39, LEWISTON 38: Charlotte MacMillan, shooting with the opposing center in her face, sank an 8-footer with 27 seconds left to lift Brunswick (6-2) over the Blue Devils (4-3) at Lewiston.
MacMillan, who scored eight points, pulled down 10 rebounds from her point guard position, also handing out five assists and making three steals. Madeline Suhr led the Dragons with nine points and 10 rebounds. Victoria Harris scored 16 points for Lewiston.
SANFORD 46, THORNTON ACADEMY 41: Julia Cyr scored a game-high 19 points to go with 11 rebounds and the Spartans (4-5) knocked down 6 of 8 free throws in overtime to hold off the Trojans (5-2) at Sanford.
Paige Cote added 12 points and 14 rebounds for the Spartans. Sanford led 40-37 with less than a minute left before Alisha Aube, who led Thornton with 18 points, hit a 3-pointer to force overtime. Alexandra Hart added 16 points for Thornton.
