There is hope!

On Dec. 16, as I was doing my regular job of 44 years, portraying the Jolly Old Elf at Plummer’s Shop ‘n Save in Buxton, I had a young lad of about 7 come to my lap.

I asked him the normal questions: “Are you brushing your teeth regularly?” “Are you picking up your toys when you’re done with them?,” etc.

Then I asked him the big one: “What would you like for Christmas this year?” He said he’d like a couple of items, like a football and PlayStation.

I then asked if there was something else he might like, and he said, “Yes!” I asked him what that was and he said, “I want the homeless to be warm!” He then began to cry and his mother, who was close by also began to cry, and at which point I was about to as well.

I told him how sweet and unselfish he was, and his mom told him it was OK to cry as he was rubbing his eyes. But being a young man, he told her he wasn’t crying and that his eyes were just itching!

This lad made it one of the best Christmases ever for me, and I will never forget him. Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus!
