Brunswick and Freeport police are warning residents not to buy products from door-to-door salesmen offering discounted goods or home repair services.

Brunswick Police Chief Richard Rizzo and Freeport Police Chief Susan Nourse issued the warning Wednesday following the arrest last week of 31-year-old Brian Woodman of Anchorage, Alaska, who was stopped by police and summonsed for being a transient seller without registration – a Class E crime.

Woodman was selling generators that he claimed were excess products from a trade show to homeowners on Route 1, near the Freeport and Brunswick town line. Neither Woodman or the company he claimed to represent, ZT Industrial, LLC of Somersworth, New Hampshire, were licensed to sell in Maine.

Police say anyone purchasing products from unregistered transient sellers may be buying stolen or defective products with no enforceable warranties.
