AUGUSTA — Ben Onek had 21 points and eight rebounds Tuesday night to lead Deering to a 65-49 victory against Bangor in a Class AA North boys’ basketball game at the Augusta Civic Center.
Deering (4-1) used a 20-10 advantage in the second quarter to build a 37-25 lead.
Raffaele Salamone had 12 points and 11 rebounds for Deering. Emmanuel Chikuta added 12 points, including three baskets from behind the arc, and Machar Nguany chipped in 10 points.
Damien Vance paced Bangor (1-3) with 15 points. George Payne tossed in 14.
BIDDEFORD 76, KENNEBUNK 46: Caleb Ball scored 10 of his game-high 17 points in the second quarter as the Tigers (3-3) opened a 37-19 halftime lead and handled the Rams (3-3) at Kennebunk.
Kyle Norton had 14 points for Biddeford, including 6 of 6 from the foul line, and Patrick Pearl tossed in 12 points.
Kyle Pasleniuk led Kennebunk with 14 points, including 12 in the fourth quarter. Cam Lovejoy finished with 11.
BOOTHBAY REGION 57, MT. ABRAM 39: Carter Babcock had 14 points and eight rebounds, and Austin Campbell scored eight of his 10 points in the first quarter as the Seahawks (3-3) beat the Roadrunners (0-4) at Salem.
Kyle Ames and Jacob Leonard each scored 11 points for Boothbay, which took a 22-5 lead after the first quarter. Dan Luce scored a game-high 18 points for Mt. Abram.
MEDOMAK VALLEY 65, BRUNSWICK 35: Kyle Donlin scored a game-high 26 points to go with five assists and five steals as the Panthers (7-0) downed the Dragons (3-3) at Waldoboro.
Cameron Allair added 13 points and eight rebounds for the Panthers, who outscored Brunswick 38-19 in the second half. Nathan Benoit scored nine points to lead Brunswick.
WINTHROP 72, TELSTAR 59: The Ramblers (5-0) used a 21-11 tun in the second quarter to open a 33-22 halftime lead and defeat the Rebels (1-5) at Winthrop.
Jacob Hickey paced Winthrop with 24 points, including 6 of 6 from the foul line. Garrett Tsouprake added 23 points, 11 boards and three steals, and Bennett Brooks tossed in 10 points.
Jarrett Bean led Telstar with 17 points, including three 3-pointes. Tanner Wheeler and Avery Griffin each chipped in with 10 points.
WISCASSET 55, OAK HILL 49: Cody Roberts had 19 points to lift the Wolverines (5-2) over Oak Hill (3-2) at Wales.
Ethan James added 17 points for Wiscasset.
Evan Boston had 17 points to lead Oak Hill. Darryn Bailey added 10 points and 11 rebounds.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
DEERING 48, BANGOR 38: Deering (5-1) used a 12-5 run in the second quarter to build a 17-9 halftime lead and defeat Bangor (1-3) in Augusta.
Abi Ramirez, Amanda Brett and Delaney Haines each contributed 12 points for Deering. Katasia Titherington scored nine.
Kira Yardley led Bangor with 10 points. Abby Houghton chipped in nine.
BOOTHBAY REGION 75, MT. ABRAM 29: Faith Blethen made six 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 30 points for the Seahawks (7-0), who took a 17-9 lead after the first quarter and cruised by the Roadrunners (3-2) at Boothbay Harbor.
Page Brown added 24 points for Boothbay, including four baskets from behind the arc.
Megan Sorel led Mt. Abram with 11 points.
BRUNSWICK 49, MEDOMAK VALLEY 35: Charlotte MacMillan scored 14 points and Madeline Suhr added 12 for the Dragons (5-1), who took a 17-5 lead after the first quarter and downed the Panthers (1-6) at Brunswick.
Gabby DePatsy scored 13 points to lead Medomak Valley. Suhr had nine steals and six blocks, and Aidan Sachs added 10 points for Brunswick.
MONMOUTH ACADEMY 48, DIRIGO 24: Tia Day had four 3-pointers, finished with a game-high 16 points and dished out six assists for the Mustangs (5-1) against the Cougars (1-5) at Monmouth.
Monmouth led 16-12 after the first quarter and 27-18 at halftime, then went on a 20-0 run in the third quarter.
Emily Grandahl had nine points for the Mustangs. Abby Ferland added six points and six steals.
MORSE 41, MT. ARARAT 29: Sierra Wallace scored 12 of her game-high 17 points in the first quarter as the Shipbuilders (2-4) opened a 20-7 first-quarter lead against the Eagles (0-6) at Bath.
Marissa Parks added 10 points for Morse.
Nicole Bradstreet led Mt. Ararat with 10 points.
BOYS’ HOCKEY
YARMOUTH 5, GORHAM 3: Cooper May and Bill Jacobs scored in a 48-second span early in the third period as the Clippers (2-2-1) topped the Rams (3-2) at Gorham.
Nick Gray opened the scoring on a power play for Gorham from Lucas Roop before Chris Romano countered with a pair of goals in 12 seconds as Yarmouth took a 2-1 lead.
Carter Landry scored for the Rams at 10:16 of the second period. Matt Sanborn gave Yarmouth a 3-2 lead 37 seconds later from Joe Truesdale.
Gray tied it with 2:18 to play in the second.
Dan Latham saved 23 shots for the Clippers. Noah Bird stopped 22 shots for the Rams.
SCARBOROUGH 3, CHEVERUS 0: Brett Rockey, Mason Parks and Skylar Pettingill scored as the Red Storm (1-3-1) shut out the Stags (2-3) in Lewiston.
The Red Storm were 3 for 3 on the power play, including Rockey’s second-period goal from Eric Murray that broke a scoreless tie.
Parks scored unassisted 11 seconds into the third period, then set up Pettingill with three seconds to play.
Colby Benway stopped 23 shots for Cheverus. Brandon Wasser had 18 saves for Scarborough.
GIRLS’ HOCKEY
ST. DOMINIC 10, YARMOUTH/FREEPORT/GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 3: Alexandra Hammerton and Kristina Cornelio each scored three goals, and Avery Lutrzykowski had five assists as the Saints (6-0) cruised past the Clippers (5-5) at Yarmouth.
Cornelio scored twice in the first three minutes and the Saints tacked on three goals to take a 5-0 lead after the first period. Cornelio also had two assists and Emma Theriault dished out four. Katherine Clemmer had a goal and two assists for the Clippers.
