Red Claws come up short down the stretch in Erie

Jalen Jones led the Maine Red Claws with 27 points and eight rebounds Tuesday, but they faltered late and fell to the Erie Bayhawks 101-98 at Erie, Pennsylvania.

The Bayhawks (5-11) opened the game by scoring the first 11 points and Maine answered with an 15-0 run capped by a pair of Demeterius Jackson baskets.

Jackson, on assignment from the Celtics, finished with 15 points and eight assists, and Abdel Nader added 16 points in only 23 minutes due to foul trouble.

The Red Claws (10-7) trailed 24-22 after one quarter and were even at 45 at halftime and tied at 72 after three quarters.

Kalin Lucas answered with a layup with 9 seconds left to put Erie in the lead 99-98. Maine had a chance to win but Jones’ shot fell short and Nader’s 3-pointer at the buzzer hit the front iron.

MLS: FC Dallas signed free-agent midfielder Javier Morales, a three-time MLS All-Star who had 49 goals in 240 appearances with Real Salt Lake.

Morales is expected to be available when FC Dallas opens the season Feb. 23 in a CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal against Arabe Unido of Panama.

PREMIER LEAGUE: Bob Bradley waited years for the chance to coach a team in one of Europe’s top soccer leagues.

When he finally got it, the job proved too big for him.

Bradley, a 58-year-old American, was fired as Swansea manager just 85 days after taking over.

Bradley won two of his 11 matches with his fate sealed a day after a 4-1 home loss to West Ham that left Swansea in the relegation zone. After taking training on Tuesday, Bradley later returned to the club’s training ground to be told he had been dismissed by Swansea’s American co-owners.
