The public is invited to an Open House celebration and fundraiser to commemorate Patten Free Library’s 125 years of service to the community. On Dec. 30, the Library will close at 1 p.m. and will re-open its doors from 5-8 p.m. for this special occasion. The evening will include music by Jud Caswell, a cash bar, sweets and savories, and much more! Admission is $25 per person; only 125 tickets will be sold. Advance purchases may be made at the Library’s circulation desk or online at patten.lib.me.us.
To mark the occasion, artist Roger Barry of Edgecomb has donated a handcrafted raffle prize. Valued at $1300, the reliquary is made of walnut with details in blood wood, maple and ebony. The lid has an embedded photo of the original library building, and the Library’s mission statement is carved into the front. There is a secret compartment, and an antique brass sash lock with SOSS invisible hinges. This one-of-a-kind item will be raffled off at the event.
