Four people escaped without injury, but three pets died in an early-morning fire that destroyed a home at 677 Bakertown Road in Poland on Wednesday morning, the Poland fire chief said.

A cat, dog and bird died in the blaze, said Poland Fire Chief Mark Bosse.

The alarm came in at 3:30 a.m. and the first fire crew arrived about six or seven minutes later, Bosse said. They found the rear of the home already engulfed in flames and smoke, with the bulk of the fire moving toward the main living area.

Emergency medical personnel checked out the four people at the scene, and none required serious medical attention, Bosse said.

The home is considered a total loss. The cause of the fire is still unknown, and the state fire marshal’s office is expected to investigate the blaze.
