The Scarborough man who allegedly struck and killed a bicyclist in Windham Nov. 16 pleaded not guilty and was ordered held on $50,000 bail Friday, according to the court.
Devin Brown, 33, of 8 Nottingham Drive in Scarborough, was charged with aggravated operating under the influence, aggravated assault and failure to remain at the scene of an accident involving death. He pleaded not guilty Friday in Portland Unified Criminal Court, according to the court clerk.
Police said Brown struck and killed 25-year-old Brandon Dumond as he rode his bicycle on Anderson Road, where Dumond also lived.
Dumond was a 2009 graduate of Windham High School, according to an obituary published in the Maine Sunday Telegram. He worked at D & G Machine and recently was excited to start a new position as a plumbing apprentice. He was decribed as a generous and kind and as a protective older brother to his two sisters. He enjoyed snowmobiling and riding his dirt bike.
Dumond’s family has declined to comment about the incident.
Windham police say that an investigation determined that Brown hit Dumond, then crashed his car a short time later on River Road.
Police say it is likely that additional charges will be filed against Brown as the investigation continues.
