ALFRED — A Maine woman accused of running over a Massachusetts teacher last year has been sentenced to three years in prison on charges of manslaughter, drunken driving, reckless conduct and leaving the scene of an accident.

Police said Carolyn Lee, 23, of York was driving an SUV in August 2015 that hit Emily Zarnoch, of Quincy, Massachusetts, as she walked hand-in-hand with her boyfriend in York.

Lee tearfully apologized to Zarnoch’s family on Thursday, the Portsmouth Herald reported.

The 24-year-old Zarnoch, who died the next morning, was about to start a new job as a middle school teacher.

Lee received four years’ probation, will lose her driver’s license for 10 years, must complete 200 hours of community service and was fined $7,100.
