BANGOR — A Madison man pleaded guilty Friday in U.S. District Court to conspiring to defraud the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
David B. Watson Sr., 66, conspired with his daughter-in-law to illegally get her compensation benefits from the VA, according to court records.
Watson submitted papers to the VA on his daughter-in-law’s behalf which falsely claimed she suffered from mental disabilities connected to her time serving in the Army. He also told her how she should describe the mental condition to VA doctors, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II.
Watson faces up to five years in prison and $250,000 fine. He will be sentenced after the pre-sentence investigation report by the U.S. Probation Office is complete.
The Criminal Investigation Division of the VA Office of the Inspector General investigated this case.
