The Merrymeeting Arts Center has announced its November program, “Keep the Home Fires Burning: A Collection of Original Posters from World War I,” opening on Veterans’ Day, Nov. 11, at 9 Main St., Bowdoinham.
“Keep the Home Fires Burning” is a private collection of 13 original posters documenting
American involvement in World War I. Some of these visually striking and thought-provoking posters are very rare. Local materials provided by the Bowdoinham Historical Society will also be on display.
The MAC gallery will be open on Veterans’ Day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on Nov. 12, 19 and 26, 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Retired historian Howard Solomon, who collected the posters, will present a gallery talk/discussion Nov. 13, at 2 p.m.
“Keep the Home Fires Burning” coincides with Veterans’ Day activities at the Southard House Museum, 75 Main St., Richmond. The museum will host an open house on Nov. 11 immediately following Richmond’s Veterans’ Day parade (11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.), featuring photos of veterans from the Civil War to the present.
