The results of the Scarborough local election have not changed after uncounted absentee ballots were counted, according to new vote tallies announced by Town Clerk Yolande Justice late Wednesday.

Kathleen “Katy” Foley and incumbent Bill Donovan were still the top vote-getters. The new tally is set to be officially confirmed by the Town Council during its meeting on Nov. 16.

With all the votes now counted, Foley received a total of 6,735 votes and Donovan got 6,433. The other two candidates, Marjorie DeSanctis and Annalee Rosenblatt, received a total of 4,048 and 3,842 votes, respectively.

A message on the town’s Facebook page, which was posted on Thursday morning, Nov. 10, indicated that “the initial election results posted early Wednesday did not include 2,743 absentee ballots processed early on Monday.”

“The omission was discovered Wednesday morning and the Deputy Secretary of State was notified. Following the instructions of the Secretary of State’s office, at 2:30 p.m. (on) Nov. 9 these ballots were added to the tally,” the Facebook post adds.

“The integrity of the election process and confidence in the final result is paramount. The final vote tally can be found on the town’s website, www.scarboroughmaine.org.”
