A 33-year-old man from the Bronx, New York, has pleaded guilty to heroin trafficking in U.S. District Court in Bangor.
Mario Lee, also known as Moe, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin, according to the office of U.S. Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II.
In addition, a woman from Holden who assisted Lee was sentenced Monday to 32 months in federal prison. Sara Monroe, 30, was also ordered to undergo three years of supervised release for conspiracy to possess and distribute heroin. She pleaded guilty in May and was sentenced by Chief Judge Nancy Torresen.
According to Delahanty’s office, between 2013 and 2015, Lee supplied heroin to dealers in Bangor and the surrounding communities. Co-conspirators, including Monroe, introduced customers to Lee, drove him to heroin transactions, and allowed him to use their homes to distribute the drug.
Lee paid the co-conspirators with heroin. As a result of a prior drug trafficking conviction in New York, Lee faces an enhanced penalty of between 10 years and life in prison, up to eight years of supervised release, and an $8,000 fine.
The case was investigated by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
