A Fairfield man has been indicted by a Somerset County grand jury on a charge of murder in connection with the death of his wife, according to the Somerset County District Attorney’s Office.

Luc Tieman, 33, is charged with intentional or knowing murder of his wife, Valerie Tieman, and was indicted Friday.

While not an indicator of guilt, an indictment is a formal accusation that indicates the grand jury believes there is enough evidence to go to trial.

Valerie Tieman, 34, was reported missing by her parents, who live in South Carolina, in early September after they had not heard from her for more than two weeks. Her husband did not report her missing. He initially told police that she had disappeared from his pickup truck outside Wal-Mart in Skowhegan.

He later said she died of a heroin overdose.

In interviews with the Morning Sentinel, friends said that Luc Tieman was unfaithful to Valerie and sought companionship with other women, telling them his marriage was ending around the time that she disappeared.

Court documents revealed that she died of two gunshot wounds to the head and was found buried in the backyard of her husband’s parents’ house in Fairfield. She is believed to have died Aug. 25.

Luc Tieman did not enter a plea last month in an initial court appearance in Somerset County Superior Court. He is being held without bail at the Somerset County Jail.
