“GURNET SUNRISE” by Jan Roberson.
For the month of November, the Morrell Meeting Room at Curtis Memorial Library will display the soft pastel works of Harpswell artist Jan Roberson. The theme of the show revolves around Maine, with titles including “ Kayaking on Quahog Bay,” “Lowell’s Cove” and “ Gurnet Sunrise,” “ Bass Harbor Light” and “Vernal Pool.” Water is a recurrent element in Roberson’s work.
Roberson graduated from the University of Southern Maine in 2005 with a Bachelor of Fine Art degree in painting. As part of an independent study program, she studied with internationally recognized pastel artist Serguei Oussik. In 2016, Mr. Oussik was, for the second time, honored to have his work selected by the International Pastel Society as the banner piece for their annual meeting in Limoges, France. She also studied with nationally known pastel artists Robert Carsten and Richard McKinley. Locally, she studied with Claudette Gamache and Kathleen Galligan.
Several of Roberson’s pieces have been accepted into national pastel competitions that were juried. One, Bailey Island Up Close, will hang in the Morrell Meeting Room exhibit.
Roberson served in Board positions for Pastel Painters of Maine, Merry- Meeting Art Association, and Coastal Artists.
