National Park film to be shown at Kenn. church
KENNEBUNK — In celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the National Park, the Sierra Club will be showing the “National Park Adventure” at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, coffee at 6:30 p.m., at the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church, Main Street, Kennebunk.
Narrated by Academy Award winner Robert Redford, “National Parks Adventure” takes audiences on the ultimate off-trail adventure into the nation’s awe-inspiring great outdoors and untamed wilderness.
Immersive IMAX 3D Cinematography takes viewers soaring over red rock canyons, hurtling up craggy mountain peaks and into otherworldly realms found within America’s most legendary outdoor playgrounds, including Yellowstone, Glacier National Park, Yosemite and Arches.
Celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the national parks with world-class mountaineer Conrad Anker, adventure photographer Max Lowe and artist Rachel Pohl as they hike, climb and explore their way across American’s majestic parks in an action-packed expedition that will inspire the adventurer in all.
St. David’s Harvest Fair to be held Nov. 5
KENNEBUNK — The public is invited to the Harvest Fair that will be held on Nov. 5 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. David’s Episcopal Church located at 138 York St. (US Route 1 south near Wells line) in Kennebunk.
There will be a café with food from local eateries as well as free coffee and donut holes that will be available all morning.
There will be over 35 baskets for the raffle, a silent auction will that will include gift certificates from local restaurants, stores, salons and individuals, a decorative pitcher signed by Barbara Bush, a flat screen TV, and more. The auction ends at 1:30 p.m.
In addition, Christmas wreaths can be ordered; pick up will be at St. David’s on Dec. 4.
Ogunquit performing group starts film series
OGUNQUIT — Ogunquit Performing Arts opens the 16th season of the Classic Film Series 2 p.m. Nov. 6 at the Dunaway Center, 23 School St., Ogunquit, with the showing of the 1944 comedy film, ”Arsenic and Old Lace.” The film will be shown on a full wall-size screen, admission, parking, and popcorn are all free.
Cary Grant, Priscilla Lane, Raymond Massey and Peter Lorre star in this adaptation of the hilarious Broadway play that ran for 1,444 performances. Grant plays Mortimer Brewster, a previously confirmed bachelor who falls for the “girl next door”, Elaine Harper, played by Priscilla Lane. The story centers on bizarre events that unfold as Mortimer’s two aunts complicate things for the newly married couple.
Additional classic movie showings, all at 2 p.m. Sundays include: “A Christmas Memory,” Dec. 11; “Julia,” Jan. 8; “Showboat,” Feb. 5; “The Hunters,” March 5; “Laura,” April 2; and The Benny Goodman Story,” May 7.
