KENNEBUNK — The Kennebunk volleyball team has experienced a roller coaster ride of a season thus far.

After an up-and-down start, the Rams feel that they have been progressing in in each match, and hope to peak at the right time as the regular season enters the back nine.

Kennebunk currently holds the 13th seed in the Class A playoff race, however, they still have tough matchups ahead to close out the season, and hope to hold on to a postseason shot.

Kennebunk coach Craig Richardson hopes that his team’s maturation throughout the year, as well as enthusiasm on the court will propel them into contention late in the season.

“They love playing volleyball so they just want to go out there and play,” said Richardson following the team’s 3-0 sweep of Thornton Academy. “We know now we’re in a good spot so we’re right in the midst of the playoff hunt. They know if we take of business and play well then the playoffs are in the future for us and I think that showed in the way they played.”

Richardson also believes on-court chemistry and communication will be key for the Rams.

“We’ve got to play tough, we need to pass better and make sure the communication is there. I totally believe in the team, I know they can do it, they just need to go out there and do it,” said Richardson.

Nearby Wells is also in the midst of its own playoff race in the competitive Class B.

The Warriors jumped to a quick 6-4 start, and like Kennebunk, own one of the final playoff spots in the standings.

These two clubs hope to finish strong and secure a playoff spot, as well as compete for a state title.
