A Winthrop man who a judge said turned his mother’s home into “a drug den” was sentenced Monday in Bangor to serve 57 months in prison for possessing with intent to distribute heroin, possession of a firearm by a felon, and possession of a registered, sawed-off shotgun.
U.S. Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II said in a press release that Chad Goucher, 38, was sentenced in U.S. District Court by Judge John A. Woodcock Jr. Goucher pleaded guilty to the charges on Feb. 1.
In addition to the prison sentence, Goucher was placed on supervised release for three years.
Delahanty said Woodcock commented during the sentencing that Goucher “was a significant drug dealer, called his actions disgraceful, and said that he had disgraced his family’s name by turning his own mother’s home into a drug den.”
According to court records, police searched Goucher’s home on March 6, 2015, and found heroin, drug paraphernalia and three guns including a .12-gauge sawed-off shotgun. Goucher had a prior felony conviction, which prevented him from possessing firearms.
The investigation was conducted by Winthrop police and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
