BRUNSWICK — Bangor Savings Bank has announced a $200,000 gift to the Foundation for Maine’s Community Colleges to fund capital improvements at Southern Maine Community College’s (SMCC) Midcoast campus in Brunswick.
The gift was announced at the recent opening of the bank’s new Brunswick branch and will support increased access to higher education and workforce training for residents in the Midcoast region.
In recognition of Bangor Savings Bank’s support, the Maine Community College System board of trustees has approved the naming of the Bangor Savings Bank Library on the Midcoast campus.
“This very generous gift from Bangor Savings Bank will enable Southern Maine Community College to continue to grow at the Midcoast campus in Brunswick,” said Derek Langhauser, president of the Maine Community College System. “Through this investment in high quality, affordable, and accessible college education, Bangor Savings Bank is demonstrating its commitment to Maine businesses and to Maine people.”
SMCC opened its Midcoast campus in 2011 with 79 students. Today, more than 600 students are enrolled in degree-granting programs. This fall, capacity in the residence halls grew to 90 from the 37 students living on campus last fall.
