LEWISTON — Bates scored consecutive goals in the second half to take a two-goal lead and held on to beat Hamilton 4-3 in a New England Small College Athletic Conference field hockey game Saturday.
Tatiana Bradley scored from Sarah Stinebaugh at 6:13 to give Hamilton (0-2, 0-1) the early lead before Bates (2-0, 1-0) answered. Isabel Garcia-Moreno scored with an assist from Hannah McLane at 13:12. McLane then gave the Bobcats the lead 4:24 later with an assist from Alexandra Leahy.
Eva Rosencrans scored for the Continentals with 11:43 left in the first to tie the game at 2-2.
Grace Fitzgerald gave Bates the lead back with an assist from Emma Patterson 7:11 into the second half. Jessie Moriarity scored an insurance goal 17 minutes later. Rosencrans scored to bring Hamilton within one late in the second half.
UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 2, MIT 0: Kersey Boulay scored a pair of goals and Holly Smith made seven saves to record the shutout as the Nor’easters (3-1) beat the Engineers (3-1) in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
SOUTHERN MAINE 2, EASTERN CONNECTICUT STATE 1: Krystyn Keating and Tayla Smedberg both scored as the Huskies (2-2, 2-0) beat the Warriors (2-2, 1-1) in a Little East Conference game in Gorham.
Amanda Kasbohm made six saves to earn the win for Southern Maine.
MAINE 6, UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA-DAVIS 0: Casey Crowley had three second-half goals as the Black Bears (5-1, 1-0 America East) rolled by the Aggies (1-4, 0-1) in an America East game in Boston.
Samantha Wagg had a goal and a pair of assists, Libby Riedl added a goal and an assist, and Madison Cummings chipped in a goal for Maine.
TUFTS 6, COLBY 2: The Jumbos (1-0, 1-0 NESCAC) scored three goals in the span of 4:11 in the first half and cruised past the Mules (1-1, 0-1) in a NESCAC game in Waterville.
