ORONO — Libby Riedl had a goal and two assists as the University of Maine beat Sacred Heart 6-1 in a college field hockey game on Sunday.

Madison Cummings and Riley Field added one goal and one assist apiece for the Black Bears (2-0), who led 3-0 at halftime.

Samantha Wagg, Casey Crowley and Lydia Gavner also scored for Maine.

Allie Brouhard scored for Sacred Heart (0-2). Emily Degennaro made four saves for the Pioneers.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

PROVIDENCE 1, MAINE 0: Kathryn Hiller scored off an assist from Casey Estey in the 38th minutes and the Friars (1-2-1) held on to beat the Black Bears (3-1) at Thornton Academy in Saco.

Kristyn Shea made eight saves to record the shutout for Providence.

Maine keeper Annalena Kriebisch finished with three saves.

Men’s soccer

SOUTHERN MAINE CC 3, ST. JOSEPH’S (VT) 1: Tristan Campbell scored the go-ahead goal on an assist from Gradi Lapika with 15:06 left in regulation to lift the Seawolves to a win over the Saints in a season opener at Rutland, Vermont.

SMCC opened the scoring 14:02 into the game when Bronson Kieltyka scored off an assist from Patrick Duddy. The Saints got the equalizer 12 minutes later.

Jamal Durrani scored on a header with nine minutes remaining to close out the scoring for the Seawolves.
