Several wildfires in California have burned nearly 93,000 acres in recent weeks, which is why the American Red Cross of Maine has sent a couple volunteers out west to assist communities impacted by the raging wildfires that are destroying homes, causing power outages and subjecting residents to repeated evacuation orders.

Among the volunteers are Dave Sheehan, of South Portland, who is the regional disaster program officer for the Red Cross in Maine and who is responsible for the agency’s overall disaster preparedness, response and recovery programs.

In addition to the wildfires in California, the Red Cross is also closely monitoring the Roaring Lion Fire in Montana, the Pioneer Fire in Idaho and the Beaver Creek Fire in Colorado.

This is a large relief response and the Red Cross needs the public’s support. Make a donation online at www.MaineRedCross.org or by calling 1-800-733-2767 or texting the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
