The Spring Point Ledge Light Trust has received two new grants. One for $3,000 from the New England Lighthouse Lovers group and one for $9,000 from the United States Lighthouse Society.
The grants will be used for needed maintenance work on the lighthouse, which stands at the end of a 900-foot breakwater in South Portland. The work is expected to begin in early October, after the lighthouse closes down for the season.
The Lighthouse Lovers grant will be used to repair leaks in the lantern room and the Lighthouse Society grant will go toward preserving the brick and iron works in the assistant keeper’s quarters.
The Spring Point Ledge Light Trust, which owns and operates the Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse in South Portland, has received new grants to assist with lighthouse maintenance projects.
