DETROIT — David Ortiz homered after being honored by the Detroit Tigers as the Boston Red Sox earned a 3-2 victory on a rainy Saturday night.

Ortiz was given a pregame tribute, then hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning.

James McCann and J.D. Martinez homered for the Tigers, who have lost 10 of 13.

The start of the game was delayed 1:20 by storms that moved into the area during the afternoon, and another heavy downpour interrupted the game for about 1:11 after the fifth inning.

Drew Pomeranz (2-2) gave up one run and four hits in five innings. Craig Kimbrel got the last four outs for his 22nd save.

Justin Upton doubled off the top of the wall in center field with two outs in the ninth, but Casey McGehee struck out to end the game at 12:17 a.m.

Daniel Norris (1-2) took the loss, giving up three runs and eight hits in his five innings.

NOTES: The Red Sox announced after the game that left-hander Henry Owens will be called up from Triple-A Pawtucket to start Sunday’s game. Owens will replace Eduardo Rodriguez, who left his last start with a no-hitter after four innings because of tightness in his left hamstring. …

With about six weeks left in the regular season, the Red Sox have no clear plan at third base.

Travis Shaw, who outperformed Pablo Sandoval to win the starting job in spring training, wasn’t in the lineup Friday night against Tigers right-hander Michael Fulmer – marking the second time in six games that the left-handed hitting Shaw was on the bench against a right-handed pitcher. Brock Holt, who also hits left-handed, earned the start at third against Fulmer.

Shaw, Holt and Aaron Hill appear to be in a timeshare.

“Looking at the matchup,” Manager John Farrell said.

Shaw is 2 for 25 with five walks and seven strikeouts in his last 10 games. He was among Boston’s best players in April and May.
