Artists George Mason and Leonard Meiselman are always looking for enormous walls; their work requires it, as many pieces are over six feet tall. They have found the space they need in the Midcoast Conservancy gallery space where the two artists will present recent work together in a show titled “Unspoken” through Sept. 11.
“There is a direct experience when viewing and touching color and texture, and it is nourishing beyond measure. … Such an encounter may have no words or no need of them,” Mason said.
The scale of Meiselman’s paintings pull the viewer close, to appreciate the nuance of his large oil-on-canvas works, then to step back in order to take in the whole image.
“When impulses from within urge themselves upon us and words abandon us or fail to express our feelings – images of our visual imagining – may soothe the mind into harmony,” Meiselman said.
In conjunction with Wiscasset Art Walk, a reception will take place on Aug. 25, from 5-8 p.m. Both artists will speak from 6-6:15 p.m. and again from 7-7:15 p.m. on the subject of their work and the “unspoken” in art.
