Maine has been well represented by independent and courageous U.S. senators for generations. Our current senators are no exception. Susan Collins and Angus King consistently take thoughtful and well-founded positions on the troubling issues of our time.
Sen. Collins’ recent commentary explaining her position regarding the presidential election is one example of such leadership.
We live in a rapidly changing and unstable global environment. A true democracy must embrace civil discourse and respect for a diversity of ideas and opinions if it is to achieve meaningful solutions to the challenging and complex problems its people face.
I am proud to be the constituent of senators who have eschewed inflammatory rhetoric in favor of respectful dialogue that will ultimately identify thoughtful solutions to the multitude of challenges before us.
