The new swap shop at the South Portland transfer station opened to the public this week. The goal is to recycle and reuse gently ­used items of all kinds. The shop will be open Tuesday-Saturday, 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

The city is still seeking volunteers willing to staff the swap shop. Volunteer duties include keeping items organized and assisting residents in following the rules of the swap shop. Both morning and afternoon shifts are available. Call ­767-­7635 to volunteer or for more information.
