AUGUSTA — Chuck Hays, chief executive officer of MaineGeneral Health in Augusta, was recently installed as chairman of the Maine Hospital Association board of directors at the association’s annual summer forum.
Hays succeeds outgoing chairman James Donovan, CEO of LincolnHealth in Damariscotta, who becomes the association’s immediate past chair. Peter Sirois, CEO of Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent, becomes the chairman-elect. Charles Therrien, CEO of Maine Coast Memorial Hospital in Ellsworth, becomes the board treasurer. R. David Frum, president of Bridgton and Rumford hospitals, becomes board secretary.
Joining the board are Karen Mueller, R.N., chief nursing officer at Mount Desert Island Hospital, as the representative from OMNENursing Executives of Maine; and Arthur Blank, CEO of Mount Desert Island Hospital, as the delegate to the American Hospital Association. New at-large members are Jeanine Chesley, CEO of New England Rehabilitation Hospital of Portland; M. Michelle Hood, CEO of Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems; and Gary Poquette, CEO of Penobscot Valley Hospital.
Hays joined what is now MaineGeneral Health in 1995 as director of engineering. In the more than 19 years since Mid-Maine Health System joined Kennebec Valley Health System to become MaineGeneral Health, Hays has held positions of increasing responsibility with the state’s third largest health care system. As senior vice president and chief operating officer, Hays headed the team responsible for the construction and operation of the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care, which opened in July 2007.
In October 2007, he was named president and CEO of MaineGeneral Medical Center. In 2012, he became president and CEO of the parent company, MaineGeneral Health.
