Portland-based Northeast Air has invested $3 million in a new terminal and other facilities at Portland International Jetport, the company said Wednesday.
The new terminal offers improved service for passengers and their crew, in addition to a new pilots’ lounge and flight-planning room, it said. In addition, a new two-story, glass-enclosed waiting area will serve as the gateway for arriving and departing passengers.
Northeast President Henry Laughlin said the company made the investment because visitors’ first impressions of Maine matter. The new facility opens Friday.
“The Portland Jetport is an important aviation gateway to Maine, not only for vacationers but also for major business leaders and investors who have companies here, or may be considering a location in the state of Maine,” Laughlin said in a news release.
Northeast Air is a third-generation company that employs 75 people and has been helping flyers and aircraft owners at the Portland Jetport for nearly 50 years. It provides fuel, maintenance and repair services to private aircraft and jets of all sizes. Northeast Air is also a factory service center for one of the world’s top turboprop aircraft, built by Pilatus Switzerland.
