I fell last winter and was taken to Maine Medical Center by ambulance. After X-rays and a few tests, I was sent home, but not alone; I had contracted a stomach virus that made me very sick for 21 days.

After several doctor visits and prescriptions, I got over it. But if I ever have the bad luck to go again, I will wear a mask and gloves or not go into that building.

If you get hurt, don’t go to the hospital. I lost a close friend who got a bacterial infection while recovering from a heart problem. He and I were reading magazines and laughing at 6 p.m. But by 8 a.m. the following day, he was dead. I only wish he had left the hospital that night. Then perhaps I still could enjoy his company.
