WELLS — Upcoming events at Wells Public Library include the following:
Build Life-Size Lawn Games
Thursday, June 30 at 3 p.m.
In anticipation of the Summer Reading Program, which starts on July 1, teens are invited to “get in the game” by making life-size versions of popular games and pre-registering for the summer reading program. In addition to making classic games like Scrabble, Ring Toss, Bowling and Pick-Up Sticks, teens are encouraged to bring their creativity and make versions of their favorite games. These life-size games will be played the following day, on July 1, for all library patrons to enjoy.
Lawn Game Afternoon
Friday, July 1 at 3 p.m.
The Summer Reading Program begins with a lawn game extravaganza. Get in the game by playing life-size versions of popular games outside. All ages are welcome to participate.
Summer Reading Program
July 1 to Aug. 13
Kids age 3 to entering fourth grade are invited to participate in the “On Your Mark, Get Set …Read.” Register and to receive a bag with prizes and instructions on how to complete the program. Events are happening all summer long.
Tweens and teens entering fifth through 12th grade will “Get in the Game: Read” and earn raffle tickets throughout the summer to enter into winning a number of cool prizes and gift cards. Raffle tickets will be earned for every two hours of reading, every hour of volunteering, and/or every time you attend a library program. Each Friday from July 8 through Aug. 12, the library will give away prize baskets and at the end, grand prizes. Raffle tickets will roll over from week to week, so keep reading to increase your chances of winning.
Everyone who registers will be entered into raffles all summer long to win prizes from Scoop Deck, Wonder Mountain Extreme Mini Golf, Big Daddy’s Ice Cream, and more.
Toddler Storytime
Tuesday, July 5 at 1:30 p.m.
Ages 2-5 years old and their caregivers are invited to meet us on Tuesday afternoons and Wednesday mornings for stories, songs, and movement, all followed by a craft.
Mad Science: Olympic Madness.
Wednesday, July 6 at 10:30 a.m.
Explore the FUNdamentals of the science of sports with Mad Science’s Olympic Madness. Make colored flames with a combustible reaction; discover the wonders of air pressure in a Tug-of-War challenge, become a gymnast and perform an experiment about the center of gravity; and so much more.
Crafty Kids
Wednesday, July 6 at 3 p.m.
Every Wednesday, a drop-in art project from paint chip mosaics to sun prints. All materials will be supplied and all ages are welcome.
Lego Club
Friday, July 8 at 3 p.m.
Participants are invited to build whatever they like, and the library will display the creations for a week. Attendees are welcome to bring Legos from home, or to use the library’s supply.
Mother Goose Storytime
Monday, July 11 at 10:30 a.m.
Join us for Mother Goose Mondays. Children ages 0-24 months and their caregivers are invited to engage in lap activities, rhymes, songs, and fingerplays.
Lindsay and Her Puppet Pals
Tuesday, July 12 at 1:30 p.m.
Welcome back to Lindsay and her giant hand puppets and marionettes. To celebrate this year’s Summer Reading Program theme, the puppets get excited about fitness, sports, and healthy eating, too. Some stories are old favorites, some are new favorites. Filled with silliness, crowd participation, and unique, memorable characters, this series of charming and positive short stories will delight the young and the young at heart.
Books at the Beach
Wednesday, July 13 at 10:30 a.m.
All ages are invited to meet us at the gazebo in Harbor Park on Wednesday mornings from July 13 until Aug. 10. Children will be engaged in stories, songs, and movement activities.

Adult Summer Reading Program
June 20 to Aug. 29
Kids shouldn’t have all the fun. With the first day of summer comes the first day of the Adult Summer Reading Program. Stop by anytime to pick up a reading log and a complimentary prize for registering. Read five books and return a reading log before Aug. 29 to be entered into a drawing for a $125 gift certificate to Joshua’s Restaurant in Wells.

Conversational French Language Group
Thursday, June 30 at 6 p.m.
Each week, a group meets on Thursdays to speak French. Anyone with a French language interest may participate.
Lunch & Learn with Bob Maurais from Mainely Ticks
Friday, July 1 at 12 p.m.
This is an informational session on how to better protect one’s family from ticks and tick-borne illnesses. Personal protection strategies, landscape modifications and the life cycle of the deer tick will be discussed. Free educational information including tick identification guides and tick removal tweezers for all who attend.
Local Music with Songwriter and Musician Jeff Merrow
Tuesday, July 5 at 6:30 p.m.
Jeff Merrow has lived in Southern Maine his entire life and began playing music as a young boy. This talented songwriter, guitarist, keyboardist, harmonica player and vocalist performs as a solo act, but he has also played with a multitude of bands all over the state.
Wells Public Library at the Wells Farmers Market
Wednesday, July 6 at 2 p.m.
Every other week the library will take part in the farmers market at Wells Town Hall.
Walk the Trails: The History of Laudholm Farm
Friday, July 8 at 10 a.m.
Delve into the rich history of Laudholm Farm with a docentled trail walk. From learning about Native American life to English settlement, from farmland to estuarine reserve, this half-mile walk is open to all ages. Participants must provide their own transportation to Laudholm Farm at 342 Laudholm Farm Road in Wells. Registration is required.
