I suggest caution in the use of herbicides in public locations – even in the “targeted herbicide program” that Falmouth is pursuing (as reported by the Portland Press Herald on June 28).
The use of chemicals is dangerous for all life forms. This includes humans, of course, but also our pets and the aquatic species that live in the waterways where these chemicals drain away. Manual methods of weeding should always be utilized first, except for the few plants that cause dermatitis reactions in humans.
