BANGOR — This is the latest on Donald Trump’s campaign stop.

4:30 p.m.

About 4,000 people listened to Trump talk about his trip to Scotland after the Brexit vote. He mentioned an ad created by “Crooked” Hillary.

The next subject was Bernie Sanders.

4:22 p.m.

A protester distracted Trump during his speech. He noticed because the cameras turned away from him.

A second protester interrupted the candidate, who stood quietly for a moment before saying “get ’em outta here folks.”

“The safest place in the world to be is at a Trump rally,” Trump said. “We don’t have problems.”

4:13 p.m.

4:07 p.m. LePage cedes the stage to the presidential candidate, introducing him as “the next president of the United States of America, Donald Trump.” After thanks to the first family, Trump immediately cites the latest Quinnipiac poll.

3:53 p.m.

Some in the crowd are shouting “VP!” at the governor.

Speaking about immigrants, LePage says, “No free lunch for anyone. Somebody ends up paying for it.”

The governor also touched on welfare, saying not all people on welfare are deadbeats.

“America is great because we all work together to make ourselves great,” LePage said.

The First Lady was in attendance at the event. “She took a day off from work,” LePage said of his wife, Ann, who has recently been working as a waitress. “Any of you who want to be waited on by the first lady, go to McSeagulls in Boothbay,” LePage said.

3:45 p.m.

Radio host Howie Carr is on stage warming up the crowd for Trump’s appearance. Carr says he was born in Portland – South of the Volvo line. “This is north of the Volvo line.”

Reporters at the event expect Gov. LePage to take the stage next.

Gov. LePage will be part of today’s event at Cross Insurance Center.

The two Republicans also appeared together at a March event in Portland. LePage introduced Trump to more than 1,000 fans at the Westin Portland Harborview Hotel, saying the cadidate was “unafraid of the political establishment” and “the liberal media.”

Trump spoke to the crowd for 45 minutes. When protesters shouted over his speech Trump directed security to escort them out.

2:10 p.m.

Fun fact: “Tiny Dancer” appears on Elton John’s fourth album, “Madman Across the Water,” and was released as a single in 1972. It went platinum in the U.S. in August of 2011. 1:45 p.m. The Maine Democratic Party staged a press conference at 1 p.m. outside the center to critique Trump’s policies.

Attorney General Janet Mills, a Democrat, said Trump and his companies represent the outsourcing of jobs that has hurt manufacturing in Maine and other states. None of the products he touts or wears are made in the U.S., she said.

“Donald Trump has nothing in common with the working men and women of Maine and no interest in helping them,” Mills said. “He has lined his pockets with cheap foreign labor at the expense of Maine workers and American workers. The ‘King of Debt,’ so-called, who says wages are too high will be no help to the people of Maine.”

One of the organizers of the protest, Jonathan Stanhope with the Maine People’s Alliance, said children are taught to stand up to bullies. And Stanhope said that principle applies to Trump and what he views as the candidate’s racist policies and remarks. “When those are in public, you have to counter that in some public demonstration of condemnation and that is why we are here together,” Stanhope said. “Trump definitely appeals to racism and there’s a lot of implicit racism in his speeches.” Some cars honked at the gathering while a few passers-by jeered the group by shouting their support for Trump. Stanhope said the protest would continue until 4 p.m. 1 p.m. The doors to the Cross Insurance Center opened and the line of Donald Trump fans waiting in off-and-on rain showers began to move inside. Trump is scheduled to speak at 4 p.m.
