RICHMOND, Va. — Andrew Benintendi lined a double to left field Friday night, driving in Tzu-Wei Lin to give the Portland Sea Dogs the lead in the eighth inning of a 3-1 victory against the Richmond Flying Squirrels.
Richmond (26-41) took the lead in the third when Ali Castillo tripled to right field and scored on a single by Darren Ford.
The Sea Dogs answered with a run in the fifth after Jake Romanski led off with a double to center and advanced on a groundout by Aneury Tavarez.
Rainel Rosario then drove Romanski in with a soft pop-up that fell behind Castillo, the second baseman.
Cody Decker drove a towering home run in the ninth inning for Portland (23-43).
Williams Jerez picked up the win for the Sea Dogs, his first of the season, going 21/3 scoreless innings of relief, allowing one hit and striking out two.
Benintendi went 2 for 4 with a pair of doubles for Portland. Romanski added two hits.
The teams play again Saturday and Sunday before the Sea Dogs head home.
