Voters in Cape Elizabeth, Scarborough and South Portland all supported the local school budgets in voting on Tuesday. In addition, voters in Cape also approved a $1.4 million bond for upgrades to the town’s transfer station.
In Cape the $24.3 million school budget passed with a vote of 778 for to 430 against, according to the Town Clerk’s office. The bond passed with 685 voters in favor and 530 against.
In Scarborough, where a vocal group of residents was pushing residents to oppose the school budget, the $47.5 million spending package passed narrowly in a vote of 1,972 in favor and 1,544 against, the Town Clerk’s office said.
In South Portland, voters approved the $47.7 million school budget in a vote of 861 for and 446 against, according to the City Clerk’s office.
All three communities also asked voters whether to continue with the annual school budget referendum vote and in all three communities voters said yes to that question.
