In response to William Lotz’s May 30 letter to the editor lecturing all Bernie Sanders supporters for the rude behavior at the Maine Democratic Convention:

The majority of the attendees at the convention, from both campaigns, were extremely well-mannered. It is entirely inappropriate to blame all of Sen. Sanders’ supporters for the insults to Barney Frank.

There are many new voters involved in this year’s campaigns. We are excited to have them! They are energized, they are hopeful for the future and, for many, this is their first time to be involved at any level in politics.

While disruptive behavior is upsetting to everyone, this was a small group and, once out of the convention hall, many acknowledged their behavior and apologized. And this indeed happened in the York County caucus, to Frank personally, and to the entire caucus. We admire these Democrats for their integrity.

I cannot sit by and watch good people be shamed by anyone for the behavior of others over which they had no control.

There has been enough discord. Now is time to band together with respect and make room for everyone and new ideas.

Mr. Lotz owes the Sanders supporters an apology.
