AUGUSTA – Legislators will question Maine Warden Service leaders this week about allegations of improper conduct during undercover operations in York and Aroostook counties.
Members of the public can attend, but not speak, at the 9 a.m. Wednesday hearing at the State House.
The hearing follows a Maine Sunday Telegram investigation detailing hunters’ accusations that an undercover warden gave them alcohol and encouraged them to commit crimes.
At the hearing, the state Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Committee will call warden service commander Joel Wilkinson, Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife commissioner Chandler Woodcock and Attorney General public records ombudsman Brenda Kielty.
The committee oversees the Maine Warden Service.
Sen. Paul Davis Sr., a Sangerville Republican, says the panel will review claims made in the newspaper “line by line.”
