Arundel taxpayers – are you ready to add another $1,000 a year to your tax bill? That’s the estimated increase for an average $200K Arundel home. I’m not remotely able to pay that kind of increase! And I doubt you are either.

At last week’s public forum, four of five of our Arundel selectmen individually agreed as well – withdrawal from RSU 21 makes absolutely no economic sense. They agreed that a potential $2 million tax increase for the town would be devastating. Yet, it can happen. But only if you do nothing. If you don’t bother to get out of that chair on June 14 and vote NO to initiating the process of withdrawal from RSU 21, you’ll have no one to blame but yourself!

Bad things can and do happen when there is significant public apathy. Our kids now are part of a great school system – one of the very best in Maine.

The Mildred L. Day school building is daily being transformed before our very eyes. Before the end of the year, we will have a “sparkling new K- 5 gem” at an affordable cost. Everyone should be justifiably proud. Yet this extraordinary accomplishment can all dissolve into a mountain of debt if you stay home and don’t vote. Let’s permanently put to bed consideration of this withdrawal once and for all. The facts are so overwhelming that there really should be a 100 percent NO vote. However, there will always be a few that say, “Don’t confuse me with the facts. My mind is made up.”

Let’s settle instead for an overwhelming 90-95 percent NO vote on withdrawal on June 14. It’s up to you to make it happen.
