Maine Coast Waldorf School’s senior class will perform Irish playwright Brian Friel’s 1992 Tony award winning play, “Dancing at Lughnasa,” on May 31, June 2 and June 3 at 7 p.m. at Community Hall at 57 Desert Road in Freeport.
Set in the fictional village of Ballybeg in County Donegal, Ireland in 1936, the play focuses on the five Mundy sisters. The story is told from the perspective of Michael, who is now an old man, as he remembers the summer of 1936 during the old pagan festival of Lughnasa, honoring Lugh, the god of the harvest.
A majority of Waldorf ’s senior class has acted together in a play every year since first grade — so while the seniors’ relationship to this play is brand new, the collaborative work of creating a theatrical production is not.
Tickets to “Dancing at Lughnasa” are $5 at the door the night of the show.
