A Massachusetts man hid cocaine in his underwear and then under the rear seat of a state police cruiser after a traffic stop in Lyman, the Maine State Police say.
Franklin Salcedo of Lawrence, Massachusetts, was stopped by troopers on Route 111 in Lyman at about 10:35 p.m. Thursday because his license plate lights were out, state police said.
He told the troopers that he was visiting friends and gave an address that they recognized as a drug house. He gave consent to a search of his car, but no drugs were found.
Salcedo was arrested for operating without a license and taken to the York County Jail in Alfred.
When the arresting officer, Kyle Wells, returned to his cruiser after Salcedo was booked, he saw a baggie under the rear passenger seat. State police said they believe Salcedo hid the drugs in his underwear and then managed to stash it under the seat of the cruiser while troopers were searching his car.
Police said the bag contained 13 grams of cocaine.
Salcedo was charged with unlawful possession of drugs and bail was set at $2,000.
