As a student at Bonny Eagle High School in School Administrative District 6, I can attest to the monumental character of Superintendent Frank Sherburne.

Under his tenure, the district has grown exponentially. Summer math and reading programs for elementary students have begun, and, as a result, test scores have increased. Graduation rates have increased. Dropout rates have decreased. And SAD 6 was one of the few districts in the nation to have won a grant for an elementary school-level Chinese language education program.

Outside of academics, the superintendent initiated the Weekend Backpack Program to collect food donations to give for children in need.

While what the superintendent’s son, Zachariah Sherburne, allegedly did to a student in SAD 55 is a serious crime, people can’t blame the father for the errors of the son. I am confident that a Buxton parent’s recent request for an investigation into the superintendent by the Department of Education will further prove his innocence.

The behavior of parents and community members who go to school board meetings and hurl egregious slurs and profane language at the superintendent and school board members is sickening. This kind of language has no place in a civilized society.

Adults are supposed to be role models for the children. Adults are supposed to show how to voice their opinions professionally in an open democratic society. Adults are supposed to rise above the fray and not just add to the noise, to be a role model for children so they don’t imitate this disgusting, offensive and embarrassing behavior.

While you may not agree with the issue at hand, I ask all reading this to collect all the information and respectfully and professionally add your opinion to the argument, if you must.
